Ensaio Aberto is a declaration of love to performing arts and an invitation to reflect on what they contain of vital, sublime and... prosaic. The project starts from a desire to share and, more specifically, the desire to reveal the hidden face (clandestine...) of a musical-scenic show. The audience is invited to see the backstage of an opera gala, being laid bare the frequent contradictions and difficulties that the preparation of such a show entails. It seeks to demystify the aura that many associate with the operatic world, to address the never-ending and often frustrating pursuit of perfection by the performers, to highlight the insecurity of the creators, the hierarchies, timetables, the struggle against time, the ‘crossfire’ between Theatre and Music!
For the ‘rehearsal’ nothing less than the Orchestra of the Algarve is called upon, joined on stage by three professional singers (tenor, baritone and soprano) in order to present a staged concert whose program focuses on excerpts from operas by Bizet (Carmen, The Pearl Fishers), Puccini (La Bohème, Tosca) and Verdi (La Traviata). The cast includes three actors who ensure the roles of the conductor, the director and the production assistant.
