I found this text in a literary competition, organized by the City Hall of Albufeira in 2008, as one of its juror. From the 35 plays I had to read, this was one that immediately got my attention as a stage director. Either for the fact that it is destined partially for a young cast – a characteristic I’m particularly sensitive too since I do a lot of school theatre – or by the fact that it resorts to a raw and simple language, or still for this theme related to the affections in general and to sexuality in particular, this text from Luís Campião was kept in the group of texts I’d like to work, and it didn’t take long for the opportunity to arise.
With the project of integrating interns from the professional school course of Performing Arts in an ACTA production, it seemed to me (and to Luís Vicente), that A Cova dos Ladrões would be the ideal text. (…)

Press highlight

‘It’s important to see ACTA developing some work in the line of transgressive texts that put the finger where it hurts the most. An excellent performance by Elisabete Martins in the role of the mother, a sober staging and a divisive text, could make of this work one of the most interesting ones ACTA has produced.’
